Charter High School

YPIC's Charter High School is a public high school serving students between the ages of 16 and 21. The school offers a unique educational opportunity for students who want to earn a high school diploma in a setting that emphasizes School-to-Work. Students gain basic academic skills while learning about real world job opportunities. They are encouraged to work part-time while attending school in order to gain valuable job experience.

"The mission of the Educational Opportunity Center is to provide an exceptional learning opportunity that will maximize student achievement and success through a high support environment to enable students to become productive, contributing, and successful citizens."

 

Goals of the School

  1. Each student will be provided a battery of assessments to determine individual needs. The assessments serve as a basis for placement into core classes.

  2. Staff will develop a positive connection with students.

  3. Researched elements of effective instruction are enforced to ensure students benefit from the most efficient instructional strategies and methods.

  4. The 3 most implemented strategies are as follows: Direct Instruction, Cooperative Learning Practices, Guided-Inquiry Learning.

  5. To provide a  safe supporting environment that allows for the personal development of each student.

Key Characteristics:

  • The Charter High School provides a non-traditional learning environment for students (ages 16-21) seeking a high school diploma.

  • Programs are designed to meet each student's needs in relation to educational standards established by the State of Arizona. All diplomas certified by the State of Arizona.

  • Office hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM Monday through Thursday and 8:00 AM to 1:15 PM on Friday.

  • The class periods are longer than a traditional 50 minute class to allow students more time to focus on each subject.

  • A typical student that completes all coursework successfully can earn 2 high school credits each quarter.

Enrollment Procedures:

  1. Pickup and complete a school application packet from the high school or download the packet by selecting the following link: Enrollment Packet.

  2. All applications packets are delivered to the registrar of the school stationed at the entrance of the school. Along with applications please provide the following documents:

  • Withdrawl slip from last school attended

  • Birth Certificate

  • Immunization Record

  • Social Security Card

  • Picture ID

  • Transcripts

  • Verification of address

  • AZELLA scores if applicable

  • AIMS test scores if not on transcripts

  1. The registrar will notify potential students by mail or phone call for an invitation to the EOC Charter High School orientation session. Please be advised, attendance at the orientation is mandatory for enrollment. Only those students that attend orientation will be admitted into EOC Charter High School.

  2. The students that attend orientation will complete academic testing. The academic testing consists of the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE). The TABE test results will determine student placement into math and language classes. If a student is identified as having a possible language need, as identified on the Home Language Survey, the student will complete the AZELLA exam to identify any language barriers.

  3. After academic testing is completed, the student will be notified of their start date. The start date is dependant upon how many enrollment slots are available.
