The Yuma Private Industry Council
provides CNA training through two of our providers: Regional
Center for Border Health, Inc., and Arizona Western College.
Regional Center for Border
Health, Inc. Admissions Requirements:

All persons must submit a completed
admission application.

Applicants must be at least 17 years
of age or older and/or at least a junior in high school and
obtain 8th grade levels for reading, mathematics and
language.
Note: Our local WIA area
may have additional age and/or educational requirements for
WIA program enrollment.

Applicants must be physically capable
of lifting over 50 pounds.

Additional documentation may be
requested to clarify or verify information provided by
applicants for admission to Regional Center for Boarder
Health, Inc. Job Training Center.

A criminal background check is
required prior to enrolling a student into the Nursing
Assistant Training Program.
Program Description:
The Nursing Assistant Training Program
is a 6-week training program designed to prepare students
with the necessary skills to pass the Nursing Assistant
Certification exam and practice as beginning nursing
assistants. The goal of the program is to prepare students
to apply client self-care concepts and basic procedures
relative to fundamentals of nursing, communication,
nutrition, anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, legal
and ethical issues, and medical terminology. The Nursing
Assistant Training Program consists of 65 classroom hours,
20 laboratory hours, and 65
clinical hours - a total of 150 hours.
Graduation Requirements:
To graduate from the Regional Center
for Border Health, Inc. Job Training Center, a student must:

Pass all required course of study
classes and laboratory/clinical training

File a completed application for
graduation form
-
Clear any fees to the Training Center
before a certificate is awarded
Certification Requirements:
To obtain certification through the
Arizona State Board of Nursing, students must:

Complete an approved nursing assistant
training program

Complete an application for Certified
Nursing Assistant Examination

Pass the written and manual tests

Complete fingerprint requirement

Felony Convictions: According to A.R.S.
32-1646(B), an applicant for nursing assistant certification
is not eligible for certification if the applicant has any
felony convictions and has not received an absolute
discharge from the sentences for all felony convictions. The
absolute discharge from the sentence for all felony
convictions must be received 5 or more years before
submitting this application. If you cannot prove that the
absolute discharge date is 5 or more years, the Board will
notify you that you do not meet the requirements for
certification.

Effective January 1, 2008, based on
Federal and State Laws, all applicants must provide evidence
of citizenship and nationality.
Regional
Arizona Western College
Nursing Assistant (Occupational Certificate) Program:
The AWC Nursing Assistant certificate program prepares
you to take a written and practical certification exam in
order to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). This
program will prepare you to work in a variety of healthcare
settings where you will provide basic care. The program
consists of only one class and focuses on applying client
self-care concepts and basic procedures relative to
fundamentals of nursing, communication, nutrition, anatomy
and physiology, medical terminology, legal/ethical issues
and aging. The course includes theory content, lab practice,
and practical experiences in health care agencies in the
community. Taking classes full-time, you can complete this
5-credit certificate in one semester.
