Posted March 15, 2010: YPIC in partnership with the Main Library will be reaching out to the community through a series of educational sessions. These sessions will be held after hours, and the main purpose of this collaboration is not only to teach skills in Job Search Strategies, Interviewing, Resume Writing, and Budgeting & Financial Planning In Difficult Times. Posted February 25, 2010: RESULTS! The YPIC Job Fair that was held on February 24, 2010 was a great success! The job fair hosted 70 plus employers and attracted over 900 job seekers! The event consisted of nonprofit agencies, community colleges and universities, vocational schools, government agencies, and local employers.

Posted January 5, 2010: “THE YUMA COUNTY WORKFORCE AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT SUMMIT - PHASE II”

The purpose of this Summit is to align the efforts of local and state workforce and economic development activities in a manner that promotes a healthy and prosperous economy for job seekers, employers and the general public.


As the Workforce Investment Board for Yuma County, the Yuma Private Industry Council, Inc (YPIC) has an obligation to keep track of changes in employment needs in the Yuma area. Some of our organization’s projects are driven by specific (usually federal) requirements, and it is YPIC’s practice to leverage these requirements to broaden our insight into employment issues and promote a comprehensive perspective on the workforce. Posted December 28, 2009: YPIC was presented the "December 2009 Chamber Member of the Month" award on December 16th, 2009 for the best equipped organization to assist individuals who are seeking employment or career training in Yuma County. The award was presented by Executive Director Mr. Ken Rosevear of the Yuma County Chamber of Commerce.

 

"YPIC is the best equipped organization in Yuma County to assist individuals seeking employment or career training. This organization also is THE organization to assist local companies in reaching their employment goals with the right person. Posted November 30, 2009: The Yuma Private Industry Council’s Executive Director Mr. John Morales delivered the commencement ceremony speech for the University of Phoenix Class of 2009 Graduation Ceremony on November 13th at the Yuma Civic center where 37 MBA and 50 Bachelor of Science students graduated with over 1300 spectators and supporters in the audience.

Posted October 9, 2009: The YPIC Job Fair that was held on October 6, 2009 was a great success! The job fair hosted 45 plus employers and attracted over 1700 job seekers!

 

The event consisted of several nonprofit agencies, several community colleges and universities, vocational schools, and local employers.

Posted September 4, 2009: PUBLIC NOTICE: The Yuma County Local Workforce Investment Board operated by the Yuma Private Industry Council, Inc. Announces the REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL (RFP) for “Adults and Dislocated Workers Job Training Services under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.”

 

The Yuma County Local Workforce Investment Board (LWIB) operated by the Yuma Private Industry Council, Inc. (YPIC) seeks proposals from Institutions of Higher Education, Community Based Organizations, and other eligible training providers interested in and capable of providing one or more of the following: Occupational Skills training, Intensive short term GED, English for Employment, Computer & Digital Literacy, and Job Readiness to Adults and Dislocated Workers within the guidelines of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and in accordance with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). Proposals must demonstrate capacity to provide state-of-the-art services to successfully prepare people for employment.

Posted August 11, 2009: The Yuma Private Industry Council will be sponsoring a Career Expo on September 17, 2009, which will be held at the Yuma Civic and Convention Center in preparation for their upcoming YPIC Job Fair on October 6, 2009. The Career Expo will run from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. Plan to attend the YPIC Career Expo to learn how to get prepared to present yourself and sell your skills to potential employers and maximize your chances for a successful job search at the upcoming YPIC Job Fair. Learn Job Search Strategies, Skills Assessment, Federal Job Search Strategies, Dress for Success, Resume Writing, Interviewing Skills, Career Development, and Financial Planning. The YPIC Career Expo will also include Arizona Colleges and Universities, Vocational Schools, Recruiters, and much more.

 

Posted August 11, 2009: This workshop will help you understand your financial decisions when it comes to foreclosure options, homeownership and payday lending practices. It is designed to help you learn about Predatory Lending Practices, Alternatives, Foreclosure Options and Scams, and Nonprofit Resources. The workshop will be presented at YPIC's Career Expo on September 17, 2009.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that sealed bids will be received by the Yuma Private Industry Council, Inc., 3834 W. 16th Street, Yuma, AZ 85364 for: Thirty-five (35) Mini-laptops, New Bid Packages containing Specifications and Bidding Forms can be obtained from the Administrative Office listed above. Bid packages will be available beginning August 06, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. to Noon and from 1-5 p.m. Bids shall be sealed and plainly marked “Bid for Thirty-five (35) Mini-laptop.” Questions may be directed to Denise Mires, (928) 329-0990 ext. 185. Posted July 29, 2009: On 7/30/09, youth will be showcasing their Green/Energy Efficiency Project’s. These youth attended a 4 week Green/Energy Efficiency program; during their participation they conducted various hands on activities, completed research and visited local Green/Energy Efficiency businesses that are operating utilizing theseEntrance to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Neighborhood Center methods. The youth worked in groups of three to develop and showcase a Green/Energy Efficiency project or process that was of interest to them. The target Youth for this project were 14 – 15 year olds, which included 56 youths from San Luis, Somerton, and Yuma.

 

“The Green of ARRA” Green/Energy Efficiency Education Fair will be held at the MLK Center, 300 S. 13th Avenue, Yuma, AZ from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM. This event is open to the Public.

Posted July 29, 2009: On 8/5/09, youth will be showcasing their Artistic skills in dance and Cinema Photography - this program will provide performances from two programs. The Dance Program consisted of ARRA youth who gained skills in various dance styles; through this program youth were able to identify Career Pathways in the Performing Arts and build upon positive self-esteem and freedom of expression through the arts. The target Youth for this program were 16 – 18 year olds, in which 13 Yuma youth participated.

Yuma Art Center and fountain at night.The second program is the project produced by the Workforce Investment Act Year Round Youth Services Summer Employment Opportunities Program ARRA in Motion & Cinema Photography” Dance Presentation, Video and Reception. The youth of this project documented various aspects of the implementation, activities and outcomes of the ARRA Summer Youth Program. This presentation will consists of an 8 minute video of a participant view of the program. The target youth for this program were 16 – 19 year olds, in which 4 were from Yuma.


This event will be held at The Historic Yuma Theatre 254 S. Main Street, Yuma, AZ from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This event is open to the public and refreshments will be provided by the Culinary Arts Program.

Valley Aquatic CenterPosted July 29, 2009: On 8/6/09, youth will be showcasing their Artistic skills in Mural design “Under the Sea”. Youth utilized art and design skills in developing an Under Water Mural in the training room of the newly constructed community pool. The youth presented themes to the department staff for selection. Upon selection the youth then completed a mural using various skills.

The target youth for this program were 16 – 18 year olds, in which 13 were from Yuma. The mural design will be unveiled at the Valley Aquatic Center, 4381 W. 18th St., Yuma, AZ from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM. This event is open to the public.


Posted July 29, 2009: On 8/6/09, the youth completed the" Green Kinder House” project, this was a hands-on project in the development of a kinder playhouse utilizing green building and alternative energy methods. The students received training in Hay Bale, Paper-Crate and Recycled Metal Building, Safety Procedures, OSHA Requirements, Development and Design, Adobe Finish, and Lighting.

 

The target Youth for this project were 16 – 18 year olds, in which 15 were from Yuma. The unveiling of this project will be held at the Carver Elementary School, 1341 W. 5th Street, Yuma, AZ from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. This event is open to the public.

 

Posted June 30, 2009: The results of the San Luis Chamber of Commerce Job Fair that was held on June 30, 2009 was a great success! Attendance for the event exceeded expectations. There were an estimated 387 job seekers that attended the event.

 

The event consisted of several nonprofit agencies, the local community colleges and universities, several vocational schools, and over 22 employers.

 

We would like to thank the San Luis Chamber of Commerce for partnering with YPIC for this successful event.

This event is being organized in partnership with the Yuma Private Industry Council and will be held at the Cesar Chavez Cultural Center on June 30, 2009.

Posted May 26, 2009: Recruiting 15 candidates for a pre-academy training program! We are currently in the process of screening for Pre-Academy students for Border Professional Careers. The course begins June 9, 2009 and is a non-credit 16 hour course in which candidates will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the program. The ages for the academy are 18 through 40 (18 to 38 for Customs careers).
